Myke Ross: Bio

At age 11 Myke began his career like most soul musicians in the church. Born on the 17th of September Myke honed his skills during church services held by his father at Mt. Zion Pentacostal Church. His father is the late Bishop W.E. Ross.His older brothers are also musicians Ricky Ross (guitarist), the late Ron Ross (bassist) and Pastor Gary Ross (bassist). By age 13 Myke was playing well enough to play for many of the areas adult gospel groups & ensembles. His first professional job came while still in high school at the age of 17, he was in a band that opened for Ramsey Lewis.
Myke is a former student of Anthony Davis and has studied privately with Dwight Andrews. Myke has participated with the jazz mobile music workshop in New York City and is a recipient of the New Haven Arts Council Award for “Outstanding Contribution To The Cultural Life Of The Community”, Myke received this award while being a member of MIKATA. Myke has performed in many of the finest venues, concert halls (Lincoln Center,Westbury Music Fair) and clubs through out the U.S. and Canada. Myke's playing style is deeply rooted in gospel music, you can also here the r&b,blues & jazz influeces in his playing.
Guitarist and composer Myke Ross has recorded and/or performed with Mikata (world beat), Betty Wright, Black Ivory, the Five Satins, the Ink Spots, the Altino Bros. as well as with creative artist such as Babatunde Olantunji, Dwight Andrews, Jay Hoggard, Anthony Davis,Leo Smith, Mario Pavone, Gerri Allen, Nat Adderly Jr. Billy Hart, Gerri Hemingway, and Jaimoe (the Allman Bros). Myke has shared the stage with artist such as Dizzy Gillespie, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Count Basie & the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosco Mitchell, Ramsey Lewis, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes the Emotions, Ray, Goodman & Brown, Cameo, Gene Carne, Tower of Power, the Radiators, Little Anthony & the Imperials the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Gospel Keynotes, Bee Bee & Cee Cee Winans.
Myke Performs in various situations such as, solo, duo, trio, quartet and is the founder (along with Gene Dobbs ) of the Nu-Cullers Band ( an eight piece soul music review band)
